Rainbow Lorikeets in "everybird's Favorite Hollow Tree" 06/08/11

Rainbow Lorikeet Pair
Early in the morning while going outside onto the deck I heard the happy chatter of Rainbow Lorikeets.  While we do see these parrots here often, they are not always regular.  Low and behold they were having a fabulous time darting in and out of the large hollow tree not far from the house. This tree has been checked out for nesting by Wood Ducks (who sadly had their eggs stolen by a goanna), Galah's, Pale-Headed Rosellas, Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo's to name a few.
The Rainbow Pair were "wrestling" out of the nesting hole until the lower one (shown) "fell" out of the tree and then flew in a large circle around the house hard and back to the hollow for more fun with its mate.  What characters they are!

Flying Off on another adventure.
